What is the Tuition Protection Service?

The Tuition Protection Service (TPS) is an Australian Government initiative under the ESOS Act 2000 that protects the tuition fees of international students enrolled with CRICOS-registered providers. If Wyatt Education Group were ever unable to deliver your enrolled course, the TPS ensures you receive a refund or are placed in an equivalent course.

What Happens if There is a Provider Default?

1

You Are Notified

The TPS Director will contact you within 10 business days of a default being declared, explaining your options.

2

Choose Your Option

You may choose to be placed in an equivalent course at another CRICOS provider, or receive a refund of unused tuition fees.

3

Course Placement

If you choose placement, the TPS will assist you in enrolling in a comparable course to continue your studies without interruption.

4

Refund Paid

If you choose a refund, unused tuition fees are returned within the statutory timeframe. No application needed.

What Happens if a Provider Cannot Deliver Your Course?

Under the ESOS Act 2000 (section 46A), if a registered education provider is unable to deliver a course (course not delivered) that an overseas student has paid for โ€” known as a provider default โ€” the student is entitled to one of two outcomes:

๐ŸŽ“

Option 1 โ€” Alternate Placement

The TPS will attempt to place you in an equivalent course at another registered provider at no additional cost to you. This is the preferred outcome under the ESOS Act 2000.

๐Ÿ’ฐ

Option 2 โ€” Full Refund

If an alternate placement cannot be arranged, you are entitled to a full refund of all unexpended tuition fees paid, funded through the Tuition Protection Service.

How Wyatt Education Group Protects Your Fees

Wyatt Education Group pays an annual TPS levy to the Australian Government to participate in the Tuition Protection Service. This levy funds the refund and re-placement scheme. As a student, you do not pay the levy โ€” it is the provider's obligation under the ESOS Act 2000.

โš ๏ธ What is a Provider Default?

  • The provider fails to start the course on the agreed start date
  • The provider stops delivering the course before completion
  • The course does not meet CRICOS registration requirements
  • ASQA or the Government cancels the provider's CRICOS registration
